Republic of Rhodesia
Republic of Rhodesia
Established in the early 1940s after the collapse of British authority in Southern Africa, the Republic of Rhodesia emerged as a fiercely independent, militarized state led by white colonial settlers and former British officers. Declaring itself the rightful heir to Western civilization in Africa, Rhodesia is both an ideological fortress and a geopolitical anomaly in a continent increasingly divided by fascist, communist, and post-colonial forces.
Geopolitical Context
The Republic is bordered by:
- Middle Africa (RK Mittelafrika) – The massive German colonial territory to the north. Rhodesia considers it a potential threat, as Berlin does not officially recognize Rhodesian sovereignty.
- South Africa – A fractured region with Boer nationalist movements and Anglo remnants.
- Portuguese Mozambique – A rare ally in the region, sharing trade routes and military cooperation agreements.
Constant border tension with Middle Africa has led Rhodesia to militarize its northern frontier, fearing a surprise invasion or "pacification" campaign under the guise of Reich colonial order.
Political Structure and Leadership
Officially a presidential republic, Rhodesia is an authoritarian regime controlled by a white settler elite and veteran military officers. Power is centralized and opposition is virtually nonexistent.
President John Trevor Langridge
- Title: President of the Republic and Protector of the White People of Southern Africa
- Background: Former British colonial officer turned nationalist strongman
- Ideology: White African nationalism, anti-communism, anti-imperialism (especially anti-German and anti-Soviet), autarkic economics
- Popularity: High among white elites and veterans, repressive toward Black communities and political dissidents
Langridge’s regime enforces ideological loyalty through media control, militarized education, and a national mythos built on the defense of “Western civilization” in Africa.
The Rhodesian National Party (RNP)
- The only legal party in Rhodesia, acting as the ideological and administrative arm of the regime.
- All candidates and civil servants must pledge loyalty to the President and the Republic.
- Political participation is restricted to whites only.
- National elections are controlled and uncompetitive.
- Censorship of foreign propaganda and pro-German or pro-Soviet material is absolute.
National Security Council
Known as the White National Security Council, this is the true inner circle of power. It includes high-ranking military officials, business magnates, and religious leaders aligned with Langridge’s vision. It directs all state security operations, from internal surveillance to foreign diplomacy.
